BIOMATEC® Pen

BIOMATEC is a young brand that is completely dedicated to technical consumer goods based on biotechnology. The first product is a writing pen with special features: it is made from biopolymers. This is the biotechnological raw material from which its casing is made. All outer casing parts (barrel, clip and push-button) are made of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), which are biobased and biodegradable. Microorganisms synthesise it through the fermentation of sugars or fats and degrade it in the natural environment. No toxic or harmful substances are used or elicited in the production of PHA. TÜV Austria, a leader in the certification of bioplastics, certifies that the PHA used for the pen is also biodegradable in natural environments such as seawater, freshwater and soil. A truly European project: the PHA is produced in Italy, the pen in Switzerland, BIOMATEC is based in Germany.
